The Special Olympics

I am so excited to share something that I found out recently about the Special Olympics!

They have a new program that is called "Young Athletes,"and this is a play and sport program for young children!!  Children ages 2 1/2-7 are able to enjoy games and activities that develop motor skills and hand0eye coordination.  Isn't that amazing?!  I am so glad that there is a program for the younger children, that way we can get our kids ready early to enter into this program.  Also, it helps my daughter become more confident, she is more communicative, and she is starting to learn 2 step directions that I give her when working on these programs.

The "Young Athletes" program comes with a toolkit that you can send in your information for!  So I talked to the director of the program and it does come with the lesson book, but not with the supplies needed to do the lessons.  Sorry everyone!  But when you look on their website, you can see other supplies that you can buy or make that will help with the activities.

It also comes with a directions manual, and lots of ideas on how to use these objects in lessons with your child.  If you want more information, here is a number to call:

Barbara Warman, Director, Family and Young Athlete Programs at: bwarman@specialolympics.org or +1-202-824-0299

We have some awesome programs for our little ones, don't we?!
