Bending

I am asked to be flexible
So I bend this way and that
Stretched to the limit

Between too much and not enough
Lover and fighter
Parent and therapist

Between reason and emotion
Fact and fiction
Science and faith

I am stretching between wife and mother
Better and worse
Me and us

Between a boy and a girl
Four and two
One with Autism, one without

Between joy and fear
Hope and despair
What is and what might be



I am bending until my back hurts
And my heart aches
I am bent

But never broken.
